Diamondback 765 VSR question

Novice here - a few years ago, I got a hand-me down original Diamondback 765 VSR in 5WT. I am aware of shorter rods and lower WTs, but this seems to be an odd duck with the 5WT on a short rod. It’s a nice rod though, but what is the ideal environment for this? Small, deep waters in the brush/trees? Larger flies in said conditions?

Besides streams, it would be good for tossing flies to smaller size bass.
Since it’s under 8’, you’d be BASS compliant. 😉

Small to medium sized streams, small ponds, etc
trout, panfish and the occasional smallie.

I've got an old, yellow fiberglass 6ft 5 wt and an 8 1/2 footer that I use for eastern US streams such as Penns Creek and lakes like CE Walker or Halfway Lake. Work great in those settings

Try different lines. Sometimes short rods like that load and work better with a more compact weight forward than standard.

I have the Sage DS 583-4. Fun little rod. Back when I hiked more often it was a good rod to pack and had enough heft in case I ever got into bigger fish. Plus I usually fished leeches/small streamers when I did that explorative type fishing.
