Diamond Lake Patterns?

A friend is headed to Diamond Lake (OR) in a few weeks and will be taking his fly gear. I've never fished Diamond so I have no idea what patterns work. I told him I'd tie him some flies for his trip if I found out what I should tie .... thus, I'm trying to figure out what I should tie.

Gene I’ve had really stellar days just using a small size 16-18 chironomids in zebra, all red, red butted black and silver, and my favorite black and red. I tied these snow cone and with silver bead and gills if the water is super clear. Smaller balanced leeches, in black, brown, olive. I also tie these on regular size 10 2x long for stripping. Calibaetis and damsels will be in play.

Well, some days chironomids are great. Damsels can be good. Leeches, both balanced and stripped. Some very small scuds are an important thing to have. He shouldn't worry about dry fly opportunities so much.

Last time I was out there I don't think I could have gotten a fish if I threw a case of dynamite in the lake. It can be feast or famine. But it's a gorgeous place to get skunked, and you legit have the opportunity of a fish of a lifetime there. There was a report on the ODFW website of a 32" tiger caught there

I would have answered sooner, but I just got back from Diamond Lake.

Gold Bead Head Carey Special in Black or Green worked best. Also caught some on my imitation of Denny Rickards Stillwater Nymph.
