Deformed Fish

I saw this Idaho caught fish on a Facebook Group that I belong to.

What do you think causes a deformity like this?

Spina bifida

Sort of looks like whirling disease...

Scoliosis, a deformed curvature of the spine. My neighbor went fishing at a recently stocked lake a couple weeks ago, and one of the trout they caught had this deformity. It's not common, although I'm not sure that it's rare.
