Day Trip to You Can’t Get There From Here Creek

It’s not on any maps (yet) so You Can’t Get There From Here Creek is a challenge to find. It was a miserable morning insect wise as the mosquitos and deer flies were voracious. To get to, and fish You Can’t Get There From Here Creek you have to trudge through swampy Cottonwood bottom land, thick grass sometimes shoulder high and large downed cottonwood snags. But if you can survive the mosquitos, it’s a nice fishery. Although the flows are substantial, it can’t be floated as the creek is blockaded in numerous locations by downed cottonwoods. Any drift boat, canoe or raft that tries this creek is stymied without much chance of safe retreat or an easy portage.

It was a windy morning, and the wind had the hoppers hopping. My Easy as Cherry Pie Hoppers on the 4-weight produced well. Most of the hoppers I saw in the tall grass were green, so it was a green Cherry Pie Hopper that did most of the damage on You Can’t Get There From Here Creek.

The best fish of the day weren’t monsters but well worth the effort. There was even an elusive cuttbow in the mix.

Damn dude. I might be a saltwater junkie but your trout reports are giving me ideas I don't have the time or (currently) the physical condition to pull off.
