Dave Whitlock passed away

Heard Dave Whitlock passed away on thanksgiving from a stroke. Great guy and fly tier. Had some great patterns in the Rainy's catalog.

One of the “Old Guard” I would like to have known. Seemed like a true gentleman.
Condolences to his friends and family.

I met Mr Whitlock at a Fly Expo in St Paul, MN several years ago. He seemed to be just as nice and humble guy as everyone has been saying since his passing. He was selling prints of his art, and personalizing each on. I'm very glad that I bought this one from him that day!

Just saw this... Bummer, but we all have our time.
My favorite all time fly is the Matuka sculpin and years ago I purchased one he tied. I treasure it to this day.
It remains my favorite fly to tie along with the Quigley crane fly. It's been sad over the years to lose Whitlock, LaFontaine, Krieger, Lefty, Les Johnson and Quigley, all of whom have books, videos, techniques and patterns that I still benefit from to this day.
Life is short. Enjoy it, fish and appreciate those who have gone before us and shared their wisdom.
