Daphnia?

I kept a pair of trout from the reservoir for a taco dinner for the wife and I, and while I was cleaning them I opened the stomach and found a bunch of little round blackish/gray/brown? dots about the size of a poppy seed, maybe a touch bigger. Hands were too gooky to fetch the phone, I know a photo would help. My first though was flea, with a tail. Like a little tiny polywog almost. Not a chironomid for sure. Would these have been daphnia?
I'm not going to tie anything this small, but I have seen daphnia mentioned when reading about blobs. Maybe the fish have been liking that black boobie because it looks similar to a cluster of daphnia? Something new (well, made an observation that stuck this time) to learn about and figure out.

Those do sound like Daphnia. I was at a west side lake yesterday that has a big population. Invisible until you stick a white paddle in the water and then they are clearly visible in large numbers. About the size of a poppy seed, purple in color, and they have a distinctive darting motion.

This lake has really impressive growth rates and I'm sure the daphnia have a lot to do with it.
