I have been scouring the web, for the last few months, looking to pickup a nice vintage click pawl reel. I couldn't afford the price for an old Hardy or Youngs so I looked at SA, Daiwa, Orvis, Pfluger etc. I ended up finding this Daiwa SF 708 Royal Srike reel. This is probably 40 yrs old made in the 80s. It is in mint, as new condition with original box and papers. I didn't realize, until I held it in my hand, what a fine piece of workmanship these reels are. Daiwa made this same reel for Scientific Anglers, the SA System One. It's almost too nice to use...

Nice piece there, score. Hope it brings you joy on many outings.

Nice find Wetswinger. I've been buying Sharpes of Aberdeen Gordon reels to pair with my bamboo. Simple design, nice clicker, sturdy and enough weight to balance the bamboo. Surprisingly cheap (less than $80), especially when US buyers are selling. Meet the Gordons, left to right. 3 1/8 inch Gordon. 3.25 inch early Gordon sold by Farlows. 3.25 inch late Gordon. 3.5 inch narrow Gordon.

I also own a Sharpes 3.5" wide Gordon and a Sharpes 4" Gordon for spey fishing.

Nice...I would like to find a 10# clicker for my switch rod. I think SA System 2 are made that size. Love these reels. I have a JW Young on my old glass Fenwick..
