Good ratio of fly shops to bars. It's got 2 nice fly shops, 3 bars & 1 over priced restaurant. That's it.
I was in Helena first week of May picking up my last kiddo from college.
Bounced over to Black Sandy Beach park about 45 miles downstream from Craig.
First time to the Missouri's edge. No gear so I just watched dozens of fatties cruise the shallows sucking midges off the film. Returning in October to celebrate home coming and a planning a couple days on the Missouri.
any guide recommendations for a couple days on the river ?I live in Helena and drive through there quite a bit on the way to my MIL’s house on that river. Fun little spot with plenty of opportunities to spend your money. Beware the local sales tax. Great fishing, no matter your preference for dries, wets, streamers or whatever. There is alot of hype and a bit of a scene in Craig, but still doesn’t detract from the resource IMO. Happy to try and answer any questions but I’m not really a surface dry fly guy for super picky fish, plenty info online though. Cheers.
I’d have to think about it but TBH you can’t go wrong with either of the 3 shops down there. The most common trips I see are bobber chuckers so if you want to focus on something else be sure to mention it. Headhunters is pretty big on Farbank stuff but also focuses on two handed trout fishing in addition to other techniques, crosscurrents is an Orvis shop and are very personable from my experience, and the trout shop recently got bought by the Fly Project/North 40 guys and also does a nice job. The seasoned guides are probably booked out a ways depending on when your trying to come. Again I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.any guide recommendations for a couple days on the river ?
Do Sun morning breakfast & stand up and start testifying to the crowd. The overly religious breakfast cafe in Cascade is interesting.
