Cowlitz County Steelhead Summer

Just got back into fly fishing after a several years hiatus. Looking to spend the summer around Cowlitz County chasing steelies during the week to beat the crowds.

I have some fishy spots discovered but haven't had much luck.

New to the forum but figured I would post and see if anyone wants to meet up.

I also have a little boat and trailer, and willing to travel. Love overnights and the wife doesn't mind me being gone for a few days.

I just picked up a heavy rod and am hoping to get some big boys this summer. If anyone is interested let's go fish.

A little about me might help. I'm 40, recently retired from the DoD. Spend all fall in the duck blind, all winter on the trap line, and somewhere in between I get out fishing. I also love to hunt deer, strike out on elk, etc.

Don't want to talk about politics, after 15 something deployments I have 100 stories if you want to hear them.

Cowlitz River fishing near Blue Creek!!! Brings back memories in the mid 70s! Just for kicks I dug up a weather forecast for that area that revealed 90s and at least one day of 100 degrees. My how times have changed since I fished there over 50 years ago!! If there was a day above the low 70s I don't remember it. I believe we were the pioneers who rowed a boat across to the other side near the barrier dam. There was nothing on the other side except some tree stands, a welcome mist, the odd band of Elk, and the tug of a jack salmon, SRC, or the monarch of the pool, a steelhead!

Man thanks so much everyone for the tips. Was a bit worried about posting at first, but glad I did because I will definitely check those spots. Offer still stands if anyone finds themselves available for a boat ride or hike send me a message on here.
