I found a cougar kill years ago just north of Vantage up on top of the bluff. I was looking for petrified wood. There is nothing up there plant wise and I came upon a cluster of sage that stood out and thought it's the perfect place to hide something there was a deer skeleton in the middle of the brush with a few sticks on it. I've seen black bear up there too. Very weird as it is so barren. Found a huge petrified tree trunk, which really surprise me. Wonder how long that was there... like from back when there was a forest there? I used to do stumble arounds in the early spring, never know what you might find. Its definitely cougars that give me the heebiest jeebies out in the woods. You dont hear about a ton of cougar attacks, but people go missing in the woods all the time and Cougars hide their kills and dont generally take on a fight they cant immediately win.
