The Cortland LTD 80 and Cortland Crown II were my first decent reels back in the 80s. Both made in England.
I don't use the Crown much anymore, but I still use the LTD all the time. In fact, I have 2 extra spools for it and they all get worked at different times of the year. And I recently bought another 80 in mint condition. These are perfect for 4 or 5 weight newb buddy rods.
I've bought and sold a bunch of reels, but I keep coming back to the simple, affordable, reliable and effective LTD. So I bought some more.
I think it was 2 years ago when I picked up a 120, then a very rare LA90 and most recently a sweet little 60 with extra spool. Again, all British made.
I know some don't like the look and feel of the graphite, and I get that. They make almost a musical sound just swiping a dry and crusty finger across them. But I like them and they are, by far, the most successful graphite reel. Of course, now there are dudes 3D printing their own graphite and composite reels.
And, as you might guess, I have 2 Magnum 140Ds. Both British made. The only American Cortland I have is a clean Mosquito in size small. It's a little tank, but very nice adjustable clicker. But back to the Brits...in all their boring, predictable practicality.
