College Football 2024

Well looks like somebody has more coin than WSU...
You'd think some Cougar Gold would have sealed the deal...but no.

Oh well, wish him good luck down the road. Played hard for the Crimson and Gray.
At least he's not taking the Dicks Burgers and going to the dachshunds.
😂

Won’t follow the tranfer portal but I believe there was some 550 players the first day. I read different numbers but Wazuu is in the neighborhood of having lost 7-8 starters and another 10-11 players with a couple being significant contributors. The holiday bowl team will basically be a new team.

Sir,
Don’t ever underestimate the power of a Dick’s Deluxe when it comes to NIL enticements!

On another note, I see the super conference coming a lot sooner than anticipated.

Yeah...hear that

20 million a year to field a team, salary cap type scenario.
Plus a job you don't have to work at but get paid, a car, plus a car for your Mom.

Isn't that Billy Jo/ Reggie Bush stuff ?
🤣

Just sayin'... I got eligibility left...but no talent left.
😁

Billy, Reggie and the entire SEC minus Vanderbilt were just ahead of their time when it comes to NIL. 😉

With the NIL and transfer BS…
If I were a sponsor, I’d pull my money back out…force the NCAA to make it so this monkey business doesn’t happen till after all is said and done for the current season.

Agreed. Close the portal down between the start of the season through the last CFP game is completed.

One fly in the ointment might be due to spring football. Some schools have spring ball that starts in early February. The CFP championship game is January 20th.
That wouldn’t give player much time to schedule visits before spring ball starts at some schools.

I think you’ll see more of this due to NIL and the transfer portal.

Unlikely. The courts would consider that constraint of trade on behalf of the athletes. Plus, transferring students on the semester system would want to register at their new school for the start of the spring semester. That way they can play spring ball and train with their new team.

Pretty soon it'll just be game by game...
Portal will always be open, trade deadlines before BCS games, eating NIL money, dead NIL money...
🤣

I looked at Spring Ball as a time to access where the team was at; due to injuries, graduations, leaving school, etc., and identify where there are needs. It is also the time to teach/coach the newer players additional skills to help them play at the next level. Spring Ball is does not have the same level of importance as the big bowl games and CFP (in my eyes). Fall/winter ball is for the players, team, school, alumni, fans, boosters and conference. CFP/bowl teams should not be the start of Spring Ball with so many players opting for the portal. I dislike, but understand and accept, players opting to not play when they could be first-round draft picks and the risk of getting hurt outweighs the reward of their life long dreams --> Pro-ball with lucrative contracts.

If you go into spring ball trying to determine what your needs are, your program is already behind. A coach should know going into spring ball what his team needs.
You want to fill those needs prior to spring ball so players can learn your system before reporting for fall camp. Not having transfer players take part in spring ball would be a waste of 15 practices they could have had developing chemistry with their new team.
That is also why some high school players graduate early so they can take part in spring ball.

Got to get those boys bulking up over the winter on Dicks Burgers for spring practices.

Bowl games will soon be gone..

Kinda wonder a bit about the future of the college football playoffs and these NIL’s.
Next to come is the players refusing to participate in the playoffs. Not talking about the top money guys but the next tier type who are late rounders or free agent types. They will be advised participating in the playoffs is an unnecessary risk and not worth what little money they receive. ‘Leaving the team to concentrate on their football future’ will continue just with different caliber of players. 😉
