College Football 2023

1. Michigan 2. UW are the easy predictions. Then I think Texas would be in before Bama, and a case could be made to keep FSU top 4 with 2nd string qb coming off concussion. Bama got beat by Texas. My guess:

Michigan, UW, Texas, FSU

To leave an undeafetes power 5 team out is ridiculous imho
FSU played but 2 teams ranked in the top 20 and didn't dominate either one. They did have an impressive victory, however, over Our Lady of the Poor. If the best teams in the country are to be considered FSU does not measure up to the level of Georgia or even Oregon for that matter. Glad I am not the one to decide as it seems there may be no equitable conclusion this year. I'm guessing UW plays either Bama or Texas and it will be tough sledding. Not saying it can't be done but it will most likely take another complete game from both sides of the ball. Don't let that drivel have any effect on major wagers you may place.

Oh so now scheduling games in advance not knowing how opponents will be two three years from date is a crime? 😂 Undefeated power 5 team should never lose a spot to a one loss team. I know and understand what you’re saying but it doesn’t jive. They ran their conference which is a top 5 power. Win is a win is a win. 13-0. Really and it’s Florida state !!!

They should be in!!!!

We”ll see how it shakes out. With a 8-12 team playoff will eliminate this discussion but bring in another one. It won’t be about being undefeated 😂

Fully cognizant of what you are saying but from my unsophisticated approach I somehow envision a national championship tournament to be the product of something other than a scheduling anomaly. Perhaps in the future, yet there will no doubt be naysayers regardless of the number of teams included.

Let's make this easy. UW is #1 and let the rest just fall where they fall.

The PAC-12 conference had more teams in the top 25 (8 at once I believe) than any other conference. PAC-12 teams played each other and UW came out on top unbeaten. Many teams in the PAC-12 were worthy opponents and that needs to taken into account (SOS).

The #1 team should be an example of 'that is how it is done'. Not a team with coaches that got suspended.

Edited to add: Full disclosure, I was born in Ann Atbor. Both of my parents graduated from UM. My dad taught at UM. I love the UM program. But I can not condone any team that cheats including UM. UM should pay a price for the shenanigans they pulled this year.

1. Michigan
2. UW
3. FSU
4. Texas

I would absolutely love for the SEC to be out, Texas won their conference and beat Bama earlier in season so if we compare one loss teams, it's hard to overlook that, even though Bama is rolling. How do you leave out ACC and 13-0 FSU? Texas for the 4th spot? It will be interesting and somebody will be snubbed. It's nice that UW is a lock.

I sure hope the Huskies can play in the Rose Bowl

Idaho vandals with a win tonight!

Wife said i watched way too much football Fri/Sat. Probably going to pay for it sooner than later

Will be interesting to see whether the Dawgs end up in the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl.

Whether they are #1 or 2, playing either FSU, Bama, or Texas would make playing in New Orleans feel like a road game. Meanwhile it looks like that can very well happen if Michigan gets the #1 spot since they would probably pick the Rose Bowl to avoid the same situation.

In yet another sign that the apocalypse may soon be upon us SI has chosen its Sportsman of The Year, a football coach whose team went 4 and 8, lost its last 6 games and when he mumbles appears to be at least partially literate. Is that really the best of the best?
Did you expect anything else? A couple of more wins, and they would be taking about his son in the Heisman conversation.

What I think it should be.
Michigan
UW
FSU
Texas

What I think it will end up.
Michigan
UW
Texas
Alabama
They’ll likely screw FSU due to their QB situation, though their 2nd string QB would be back for the bowl. They’ll likely also overlook their defense, which played great last night. #55 Fiske was a beast along with #5 Verse and #15 Bethune. Unfortunately defense doesn’t win beauty contests.

The SEC rhetoric started before the game with Saban and Sankey and kept going with Smart after the game.

I agree. That's the way it stood Thursday, and then the games played out. The SEC finally did what the PAC12 has been doing for years, beat each other until no one gets in.

That’s how I see it…

The undefeated teams should all be in which means one of the oneloss teams has to be left out and I would bet it will be Texas and Alabama getting the nod.

Regarding those saying FSU and having a back up qb hurts their chances ……This never played a role in selecting Ohio State going to CFP when they lost JT Barrett at end of the year and we got to see Cardale Jones. Who was actually the no.3 qb at start of season. JT was the back up but Braxton Miller was injured at start of season. Think you could argue a precedent has been set for this….Losing a qb or star player should not factor in imho. (If Penix had broken his leg at end of the game would a 13-0 UW be eliminated ?)

I wouldn’t want to be in the same room with Coach Smart when they announce the four teams. 😱

That's my guess. Honestly though, given FSU's qb situation, I personally would have zero issue with them getting left out but they ARE undefeated in a power 5 conference, so I have no issue with them getting in either. If they end up getting in and then get absolutely smoked (which I think will probably happen), that's when lots of folks will sit back in their armchair position and say, "see? told you so..."...not me but only because I don't really have anything really invested in it. I just can't see them leaving out an SEC team but with Texas beating Alabama, they'll have tough time rationalizing leaving out Texas too. Personally, I just want to see some good games. There's always gonna be a team that get's screwed. But, at least it's better than before, when only the top 2 teams would play each other, which was better than before that when the top teams just didn't play each other at all. I can't wait until they go to 12, then there will be nowhere to hide.

If are to e honest who makes the playoffs under the current system has never been about which are the best teams or who are the most dangerous teams at the end of the season. There are lot of examples of teams with a lost or two that have grown over the course of the season that do not make the playoffs even though they would likely be ones of those playing the best football at the season.

Rather the selective to the plays have been based on who has had the best season which for better or worse is defined by the top conference team's season record, success in conference finals, and their strength of schedule. With those criteria the three conferences winners with undefeated seasons would be considered as playoff teams. The result then becomes which of the teams with one lost won their conference championship (Alabama and Texas) should be the final one to make the 4-team play. Ultimately picking between Alabama and Texas has to be the head to head results, that will be Texas. The only time that the likely hood of the team winning a matchup is in the seeding of the 4 finalists.

From what I saw/know my final 4 in ranked order are:
Michigan
UW
Texas
FSU

Though my heart would switch Michigan and UW!
