College Football 2023

I'm with Tom regarding late evening starts. It was closer to 8:00 than 7:30 by the time of kickoff. Once again I fell asleep during the 3rd quarter, with ASU ahead 7 to 3. Figured the Huskies lost; then I woke up around 11:30 or so to see a score of 15 - 7. I apparently missed the best part of the game.

F!@#$%^&*()++!!!

From a Dawg POV, there were only two 'bests part of the game'
1) the pick 6
and
2) it was finally over with an ugly win.

There is an interesting review of the new NIL landscape in college athletics in today's New York Times:

"How Rich Donors and Loose Rules Are Transforming College Sports".

To summarize, the donor collectives that pay the players are outside the universities. "The average starter at a big-time football program now takes in about $103,000 a year". While the NCAA is still prohibits explicit "we will pay you X if you play for Z State", they can't police it. Some donations to these donor collectives are funneled through "charitable organizations"; this means that the donations are tax deductible. The athletes who are paid by these organizations are supposed to do some activity that supports the charitable organization in return.

My take on this whole BS…

What they allowing now, is what they used to outlaw in college football. Teams were penalized and forfeited win/loss records, championships, fined, and coaches fired. Does this mean that records, fines, salaries be reinstated for all involved?

Will NIL players be subject to monetary penalties for breaking team, college, conference... rules?

Not often I get to brag on my Kansas Jayhawks in footzball, but today KU took out previously undefeated #6 Oklahoma. First win against Oklahoma since 1997, yes, you read that right, 1997!!!!! 🥳

Cheers, and I mean CHEERS!!!!!

The PAC12 thanks KU for clearing the path. Falling to an unranked opponent can't be good for the Sooners playoff hopes.

Looks like Utes fell flat and Nix is performing at a very high level along with the rest of the team. :D :)
Fixed it for you ...

compared to the Astros felony fukkery, this is a mere nothingburger
It sounds like the NCAA views it as a bit more seriously, and is accelerating things much quicker than normal.
Including vacating their wins for multiple years, reducing scholarships, and of course, Hairball will be jumping ship after this year.
I read some more on this last week, does not look good for Michigan.

"A Group of Five head coach told me yesterday that he is just baffled that they left such a paper trail in this. Quote: 'In some ways they should be held accountable for just sheer stupidity.' "

Baseball is a shithole sport, so no surprise they did fuck all about the Astros...

Nice to see the Dawgs get more national TV exposure. FS1 @ 4:00pm
