College Football 2023

I was in the student section as always for the Huskies game today. It is my last year there and today was something special. My ears are still ringing. 131 decibels on the big board decibel meter. It was fun rushing the field too and bro hugging random strangers.

I thought Oregon played a really good game, and just ended up on the wrong side. I’m sure both teams will have a chance to meet again in the Pac-12 chip.

We were at the OSU game last night. It was a great game and the UCLA turnovers were the difference. This is our first time in Reser since the improvements - that place can get really LOUD now and we thought the crowd noise made a difference late in the game.

What happened to the Cougs yesterday?
I know Arizona has been playing really well, but prior to yesterday the Cougs have been super competitive in all their games.

Their defense is better than previously shown. But needs to continue to develop/improve.

Early in the year, they tackled a lot better than they had last year. Yesterday they missed a lot of tackles again. I do attribute some of that to Oregon having some excellent skill players, but they still need to clean that up. It should continue to be a point of emphasis.
Another 7:30 kickoff this coming weekend.

Huskies continue to get more well deserved respect. Now #5. Ducks only moved down one spot to #9.

Still 2.5 quarters left, but Oregon is STOMPING the Colorado Primes.

Speaking of that, regardless of what you think of Deion, it's absolutely insufferable that the announcers call him "Coach Prime". Or do coaches just get to pick a nickname now? I wonder if that will work into NIL stuff? Coach Triple Parlay brought to you by BetMGM?
Remember when they called him Neon Deion ??

Always take the points. 🤔

Knowing the pac 12 welll there will be a surprise upset of the dawgs. This conference is nasty. You would think the sec would be nasty but THEY view that conference different. An upset in the sec doesn’t carry the weight of losing in the pac12 and usually to an OSU or Wazzu or Cal team…. I’m thinking that upset can come from the cougs. They cougs need to be healthy. Very good team but shallow depth. Showing now. But if they get some back watch out. Plus watch out for the team playing with nothing to lose. 😉 Because we are only a couple weeks from that. Teams plating not to lose vs teams playing to win at all costs makes for some interesting games.

Go Coogs!!!

Lol

I may need to leverage my synergy with the fellow coogs, and pivot to a more robust trolling of flappy bird fans...

There is an interesting review of the new NIL landscape in college athletics in today's New York Times:

"How Rich Donors and Loose Rules Are Transforming College Sports".

To summarize, the donor collectives that pay the players are outside the universities. "The average starter at a big-time football program now takes in about $103,000 a year". While the NCAA is still prohibits explicit "we will pay you X if you play for Z State", they can't police it. Some donations to these donor collectives are funneled through "charitable organizations"; this means that the donations are tax deductible. The athletes who are paid by these organizations are supposed to do some activity that supports the charitable organization in return.

I'm a UW alum, therefore a Husky fan. As always, the call sign is "Fvck the Ducks!" Meaning I invariably favor whichever team is playing the Ducks, be it Wahzoo, USC, even ND. There is no team I want the Ducks to beat.

Oh wow. This is adding new responsibilities for the head coach in not only trying to buy recruits, but retain existing players with $$$, and explain why RB1 gets $$$$ and RB2 gets $$. Headache.
