College Football 2023

Colorado joining the Big-12.

Seems like a big gut punch to the Pac-12. I think UW needs to find a way to the Big 10 soon just to stay relevant.

I think the Mountain West would be best for them.

PAC-12 schools are generally harde to get in to. Maybe Coach Sanders wants
Less restrictions for admissions? Of course usc and ucla leaving diminishes the pac12 too.

You can blame the demise of the PAC 12 on the chancellors and presidents.
Tom Hansen was terrible and about as exciting as a wet piece of toast. 26 years with that guy.
They followed that up by hiring Luxury Larry Scott and keeping him on way too long, yet kept voting to retain him.
I actually like George Kliavkoff, but he was dealt a losing hand by Scott before he started. USC and UCLA bailing for the Big 10 really put him in a bind.
It’s just really unfortunate that the west coast won’t have a major conference of its own in the future and a conference with lots of history will likely disappear. If Kliavkoff manages to somehow save the conference, it will be a miracle. Even if he does, I’m not real excited about watching conference games on Peacock, Apple TV etc..… that type of deal doesn’t really help with exposure for the conference.
You can also blame ESPN and Fox for all the conference realignment bs. Just follow the $$$$$.

Soon to be Pac-8
Just like it used to be
:)

Nah witnessing the death of the PAC -8-10-12…. I’m sorry but you CANT be playing games at 730pm PST. First, much of the east coast is asleep and the Midwest is gonna watch a half of that. You can’t be strong in those markets. Second you have insulted a big traveling fan base, those that travel to home games. In past they could leave early in am and be there for pre game partying and watch the 130pm kickoff. And also make it home that night at a decent hour. With the night games you have people who stopped coming. They don’t want a 2-3 hour or more drive starting at midnight, they don’t want to pay for a hotel either. Third get rid of Friday night Pac 12 games. ….those nights are lost again on midwest and east coast college football fans and you have insulted the local fans again by taking away their local high school football night. Pac 12 lost sight of their fans and in doing so lost everyone in a way. You put out a great product and you condition the fans and tv based on the history of how elite the conference is and you make the east coast happy hour the starting time of the pac12 football games. You condition the country to your great football product and keep your local fans happy. Now I understand if UA or Asu needs a couple night games Can’t be playing in 115° weather 😳 Or a game here and there at night but not as many as they have had.

Heck. I remember a few games with Leach at Wazuu being up to near midnight watching and wondering if cougs would pull it off after 70 passing attempts.

Excellent

It's over
The Apple TV deal will be the last straw.

Pac-4...then Mountain West.

The ACC is especially screwed with their TV deal running through 2036 and the grant of rights that go with it.
I predict some ugliness in the courtroom will eventually happen as teams try and leave.
Clemson, FSU, North Carolina and Miami will be getting very restless as the dollar gap grows.
Their contract is a lesson for other conferences. Go with shorter media contracts. The 12 years left on theirs is an eternity.

If Arizona goes to the Big 12, (which looks like an even money bet), then it will be done. That is likely to happen before the Big 10 gets uw, ore etc.
Az State and Utah would then be likely Big 12 candidates, following Arizona in short order.
That would leave the other 4 (UW UO Stanford and Cal) pretty much scrambling to make a deal with a conference of some import...not an enviable situation for those schools.
The remainder will wind up in the Mountain West.
Pac 0 by 2025, 2026 at the latest...might last till 2027, but I would not bet on it.
😁

The media deal is poor, and that gives you some insight on how the various media bidders view the Pac whatever...
There's not much interest, and it is not valued very highly.
