NFR College Football 2022

Non-fishing related
(Think I have said this before, might have been on some other stanky site tho). If you want to see some real college football go visit Cheney, Ellensburg, Spokane, maybe Tacoma on a Saturday afternoon and watch (for the most part) student athletes! Everything else is becoming semi professional football at the minimum.

Grubb just got a whopping contract from the UW or should I say the State of Washington. He will be one of the highest paid assistant coaches at over 2M per year. Rumor was he was being targeted by Texas A&M.

Awesome
The Rocky QB might be Nobach
Arlington product
Maybe I see you at Carroll
I’ll buy you a beer. - or 2
Do you know where I can get a copy of the schedule?

I may be the only football fan to like the fact the players get paid and can move. I mean, they are labor after all. In the US of A, labor has the right to negotiate their compensation either individually or collectively. It's just antithetical to free market enterprise to have a for profit enterprise where the labor can not negotiate their salary either individually or collectively. It is not slavery as they have a choice whether to work or not, but it certainly is against the spirit of an American style free market.
The schools and coaches seem to love competition as long as they are they are the only ones able to compete for greater compensation. Football coaches can negotiate their salaries so they are usually the most highly compensated state employee (at state schools). They do this because it makes financial sense to have a winning football team. We can all negotiate ticket prices with scalpers or ticket vendors. Now, the labor pool can negotiate their compensation through NIL's. Yah, the product takes a hit but that will even out over time. Seems like it's closer to being at some sort of equilibrium now than it has been. Hell, coaches have been leaving their teams high and dry at bowl games for years. Turnabout is fair play after all.
Then their is college hoops. That tournament pays for the NCAA budget for the year.

I get exactly what you are saying
I just don’t think it’s good for college football as we know it.

Bowl games are not getting the best product. Fans are not seeing the best product.
I think the writing is on the wall. Get rid of all bowl games unless they are part of a playoff series, or this kind of thing will continue to grow.
That train ain’t coming back to the station
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Could the product suffer enough that fans get so disappointed that they don't tune in? Enough that deep pocket sponsors decide to pull out because of poor ratings so the networks have to stop televising pointless no-name bowl games?

I agree. It's difficult to develop team chemistry when players are moving from team to team. QB's tend to have favorite receivers whose tendencies they've learned over time. Same is true for O and D lines who play together for more than one season together. Someone earlier said they should retain the one year of not being elgible after a transfer. I agree with that too. I guess being an old traditionalist is going by the wayside .....just like being a dry fly purist.

I really don't have issue with a player going through the portal if he is serious about pursuing a career in football, and is not getting the playing time he feels necessary to accomplish that. I would hope the universities would have counseling available to help players make the right decision. The reality is most college athletes aren't going into the pro ranks, and most will feel the consequence of not taking advantage of the learning provided by a full ride scholarship.

Slowly but surely the teams and the plays and games are getting better day by day. Looking forward to rest of the week and this weekend.

I am a traditionalist that doesn't like what it has turned into, however, I get it, and think it will create more opportunities for fringe players to transfer to another team and get actual playing time, and maybe this will even out the talent pool instead of having the same 4 or 5 teams competing for a Natty.

Collective bargaining would provide the ability for the parties to make it work out i the near and log term. As it is now, the labor negotiates individually. Collective bargaining would change that dynamic.

The NCAA fighting an athletes union led to this.

The scoring machine known as the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats put up 48 freaking points today!
However, the Praire View A&M Panthers dropped 58 on them to push the Wildcats to a 2-6 record.
I heard that these Bethune-Cookman Wildcats are getting a new coach this year. Does this make you happy ?
