Coldwater Lake

I haven't fished it in decades. When it first opened I had one of the best trout fishing days of my life, all big fish and lots of them. Subsequent trips were never as good but on one occasion I kicked the whole length of the lake and fished the inlet. There were lots of fish there and it was exciting fishing but the kick back to the launch required the strength of a gorilla and the tenacity of a honey badger. I had neither....

A pedal kayak would be an excellent choice to reach the upper end, not a float tube or pontoon should the wind come up.

I was there 2 weeks ago, or was it 3. Fishing was a bit slower than the last time I fished there 3 or 4 years ago. But it wasn't bad at all, although I didn't catch any large trout. My friends always catch the bigger fish.

Fishing from shore is extremely restrictive. A boat is best, but even a float tube allows one to fish all around the launch end of the lake, out to the island and such. If I could only fish from shore, I would choose somewhere else.

I’d say a boat of sorts is a must for better fishing opportunities. Way back they had it posted that you couldn’t get off the trail due to fragile plant life…..

In my opinion, a water craft is a must. I wouldn’t waste the time for a “fishing” trip without one.
Pretty neat trip even if you don’t fish.
