Coffee Pot

I want to go, looking at the weather it looks like BIG wind and a bit chilly in the tent at night. But, what way does the wind blow? I'd be tube fishing. Mid-week I'd hope for a camping spot. I've watched all the YouTube video's, looks great.

The thing about snakes. No fear if I see first. It’s when the zip across your feet unexpectedly or just come to say hello while your peacing out and enjoying the scenery. That’s when they freak me out.
They can blend in to the ground very well…..

They also tend to hang around those irrigation ditches/canals.

What's the best way to handle a situation like that? I often think about that happening when float tubing in the basin. Is there any way to prevent them from coming aboard? Can you pepper spray a snake?

What did your buddy do?

I just try not to think about a rattlesnake swimming up on my float tube (out of mind?). I don't know what I'd do if one tried (assuming I saw it coming). because a snake can sure as heck swim faster than I can kick my Fat Cat.

My friend eventually "persuaded" the snake to leave after multiple swats with his fly rod.

The first time I fished the Lenice/Nunnally chain I traveled there with two friends from PSFF.org. We got there really late in the afternoon, hauled our donut tubes to "Merry" (I think, it may have been Bobby) and fished until well after dark. None of us remembered to bring a flashlight (talk about dumb asses) and of course as I'm backing out of the lake a snake rattles at me. In those days I had one fly rod and here I was beating the shoreline with my one and only fly rod.

Was talking with a friend that had that issue in the 90's in his old tube. Chased him outa the lake after many smacks with his rod.

It might not happen that often but when it does. ‘oh boy’. Not to mention all the potential happenings 😬. See the wake, don’t shake, don’t eat cake or take a break, just make haste and off you take!
