Borrowed the mono core from my variations on Adam Trina’s Carnage series. Lots of steps here, none of them difficult. As long as you don’t lose it in a tree, snag or fish, it’ll last all day long and you’ll never need to break out your floatant. Change color/size to suit your needs (on #6 scud hooks, I use 2mm foam for both parts of the body).

Here’s the link to my gallows tool, if you’re interested (sorry for the PBucket logo on the photos); it makes it much easier for me to tie this fly, Hacklestackers, Carnage and some parachutes.

[hook - WFC Model 10 #8
thread/rib - GloBrite #11
core - 20lb mono
binding strip - 2mm foam
body - 1mm foam olive/2mm foam chartreuse
legs - medium rubber black
indicator - 1mm foam orange

Part 1

Open the gap on the hook, then bend down the front a bit

Start thread a bit behind the eye, wrap to hook point

55503986033_be91f69c99_c.jpg

Take about 5” of mono, make a loop in one end, flatten out the other; brush thread base with super glue and tie in

Tie in binder strip (color not important); wrap, tie off/trim

Two strips of foam (for a fly this sized, out foam is about 2.5” wide, inside about 1.25”); fold outside over, cut in “V” shape, then taper head

Glue inner body to top half of shell; poke 2 holes in underside (width of binder)

Remove hook from vise, slip foam on hook thru rear hole; remount hook, pull foam forward and poke eye thru front hole

I test wrap body behind and in front of bonder strip (cross-wrap on top) to make sure of proper placement, unwind, brush super glue on body up to back of binder strip, then wrap
