Cellphones on the water - tips thread!

Have you tried life proof cases? Lots of advantages to the camera and all but I can throw my phone facedown on concrete and it does nothing to it. And they replace the cases for life.

That was one of the options I considered, but I didn't want to daily drive a case like that and I'm too lazy to take it on and off every time.

I carry my iPhone as thy lord Steve intended; naked, with no case.

I don't care for cell phones in my boat. When I launch, the phone stays in the truck. I have a rather inexpensive fujifilm water proof camera on a lanyard so that when I'm waistdeep in the river I can take photos without fear of it getting wet. Takes nice pictures too.

I leave mine in the car...
Never had a problem...
Ever.
Good,solid cheap solution.
:)

I knew there would be some I'd-never-bring-a-phone-fishing type replies! 🙄

1) I assume those folks don't have kids. I love fishing, but I'd return instantly from anywhere, anytime, if one of them needed me. Priorities.

2) My phone takes better photos than any of the WP cameras I've ever had!

3) I listen to tunes sometimes when alone. On one particular lake, the trout have an oddly consistent affinity for Camila Cabello 🤷‍♀️
Hey, I'll take any advantage I can get!

Ha! I figure it's more likely to get stolen from the car than dropped in the lake!
My fishing rig is a beater, it looks like something a thief would pass on.

--> I highly recommend a phone tether! It's saved mine from going in the drink more than once.

This type is easy and cheap if you have a case on your phone.
View attachment 8745The patch slips between the back of the phone and the case, with a slender ribbon & ring hanging thru the charge port opening.
View attachment 8746I put a small carabiner thru the large tether ring on the spring cord to attach to my life vest, and clip the small existing clasp to the phone. While in the yak, the phone then resides in my chest pocket. On my Samsung, the ribbon doesn't block the charge cord at all, so I just leave it on all the time.
Nice.
I just made a loop from some dacron braid with the line running through the holes in the case for the charge port and speaker. Then I either clip a short piece of bungee to the phone and a D ring on my fishing pack with a strap pocket, or clip the phone to a neck lanyard.

Following inspiration and the good sense in this thread I fixed up a leash of 30# maxima, one end on tube d ring the other on this little snap strap from something. It has been working well. I just tuck the phone in the pocket and easy to get quick shots. Just unsnap and go when done.
