Celebrating Our 250th Anniversary

Got a bit bloody ?
aye. Wore my super aggressive race shoes which punish you for not running perfectly... which I was not doing after rolling my foot and kind of limp running for half the race. They're still pretty chewed up today even.

It was a typically low key day for us. We don't do a lot of celebrations except for birthdays and a few holidays. Had a friend and her pack of furbutts over for dinner. Smoked a 5lb brisket, but while edible, it was drier than usual for some reason, even with adding back rendered fat and wrapping in butcher paper for the 2nd half. Not sure what happened.

King county may have "banned fireworks" , but south end of county didn't get the memo. I spent an hour hosing down the yard and roof in case something started a fire. I bet the neighbors think I'm nuts.

We started getting bottle rockets and early boomers just after noon. That increased in intensity to the point we had to shut the doors and windows on the north side of the house due to inconsiderate neighbors popping schtuff off in the middle of the street. Suddenly around 1 am everything just stopped.

Kay got up yesterday to shower before work... the water was mud. After trying to find an emergency number or recording for the city that might deal with or explain what happened (yeah right.) we ended up calling the water district emergency number.

Guy who answered told us the fire dept had been busy nearby overnight and our hydrants and local lines had to be flushed to clear things. That included us flushing house lines, which he told us we could start doing after 11 am. Took 2 hours to clear our lines once I started.

Meanwhile the packing continues.

Owwwch.. haven't seen bloody socks like that since my army days.

I pronate so much I'm not sure a super duper good pair of shoes would help my waddling posterior.

x2....my feet are so flat I'd be nonfunctional without custom orthotics. When I worked at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, they used my feet for a teaching model for extreme pronation.
While there test drove all the customs, best of breed are from Prolab. If you haven't yet, strongly suggest seeing a podiatrist, as flat arches accelerate knee and hip issues due to biomechanic misalignment. If deciding to do so, you can call Prolab in the SF bay area and ask them what podiatrists in your area use Prolab orthotics.
A custom orthotic prescribing podiatrist will take a cast of your foot in 'neutral' alignment, what it would be like if you actually had an arch, while sitting in a med chair with leg straight out. Then the cast will be sent to the lab where it is laser scanned to make a 'positive' form from it, which will be applied with a proprietary poly mix which when cured replicates the bottom of your foot 'as it should be.' The orthotic is then covered with a thin neoprene cover for comfort. The advantage of Prolab is how well it conforms, extremely light, and has some flex in it. Super comfortable.

That was a good run Evan. In my experience I found anything over 12k was actually faster in my training shoes, and overall a lot less fatiguing.

Yeah I should've wore my tempo shoes. More comfy, less agressive, and I've run much longer distances in them. So would've been the right happy medium.

Anyone who thinks they have a problem with too many fly rods should talk to serious runners 😆

Track spikes, 5k, 10k flats, interval/fartleck day shoes, and short and LSD shoes. About as many fly rods as I rotate through in a couple weeks nowadays (Euro, boo, glass, 4wts, 5wts, 6wts).

I actually thinned my roster down a little bit last month. Just down to these now. Seems perfectly reasonable.

Totally reasonable! Adidas always fit me well.
I've learned to not make blanket statements about brands as the fit/feel changes from model to model, and even between generations of the same model. Sometimes significantly. The bloody feet pic in the first post was my Adidas Adios Pro 3 actually - that's my most aggressive shoe.

I always felt they had a better narrow heel, high arch, big enough toe box last in the training styles. I wore a lot of Asics flats. Always pounded sore legs after a flats race.

Most of my distance running in my younger, more fit days was in boots. but, I did wear out 3 pairs of Adidas in one year. it's been so long I don't recall the model, but they were light, fit my high arched, wide as hell feet, and worked for me.

I did try to replace them with various new balance, Nike, and ASICS, but could never get the width dialed in. that's true even today. and I still wear them out from the outside inwards.
