I’ve only fished chums in the canal and they can be tackle busters. Had one launch itself out of the water up into the salt grass. Can be fun, but I found the silvers doing pre-spawn stuff on the shallows. They ended up in the cooler.

Way I like to fish the 'keek is to dam 'em in by placing a PHYSICAL BARRIER across the water. CUT IT OFF. Then once you see 'em in there you can just dangle down a line till the hook is under the fish and then YANK UP!!!! Just rip it out of the water. Often frowned upon but the preferred way to fish the 'keek.
