I’ve only fished chums in the canal and they can be tackle busters. Had one launch itself out of the water up into the salt grass. Can be fun, but I found the silvers doing pre-spawn stuff on the shallows. They ended up in the cooler.

Way I like to fish the 'keek is to dam 'em in by placing a PHYSICAL BARRIER across the water. CUT IT OFF. Then once you see 'em in there you can just dangle down a line till the hook is under the fish and then YANK UP!!!! Just rip it out of the water. Often frowned upon but the preferred way to fish the 'keek.

There’s also another creek down there by Meadowdale that got a return of chum when I swung by there around 10 years ago. It’s along that trail that goes down to the beach and under the train tracks.

I wonder if they still show up there.

Here is some past years return data if anyone is interested. I may be wrong, but I don't believe there is any natural reproduction.

Saw coho in there for the first time when I stopped by before the rain a few weeks ago! There were a couple small fish that were either jacks or cutthroat too
