I really can't complain, as I had this line for over a year and used it a lot. Its a Cortland Full Sink Type 5. It was coiling too much in the boat, so I started stretching it an arms length at a time and it just snapped. I've stretched all my lines many times without an issue. So this got me wondering why. The only thing I can think of, is I have occasionally stepped on it while standing up to cast out of my pram. Will that damage a line.? I've stomped on plenty of lines when stream fishing without a problem. What do you think.?
 
My guess is the line was nicked in someway or another. I broke a nearly new Rio Gold doing the same thing; I suppose I could have stepped on it in my pram or on the shoreline, it happens.

Curious: Other times when using this line and you stretched it, did the memory coils relax or did the stretching eliminate them for that day's use?
 
It would slowly coil again in a couple hours but not nearly as bad as fresh off the reel..

Do you use a carpet or mat in your boats.? I've read it helps. I can't get excited about a wet sandy carpet to keep clean..

I had an old intermediate that was a slinky, I could NOT stretch it straight: I thought about tying it to a tree and stretching it out with my truck. I threw it away.......

When I first got my pram, the builder had coated the footwell with non-skid paint (sand or sandblast slag) so I used a carpet. The carpet loved sand, mud, gravel, algae and all kinds of crap. I sanded out the paint from the build and just keep it painted smooth, no carpet. One trick I've learned is carry a sponge in my pram, get it wet and mop up all the grit that comes from boots when launching. During the trip up to BC, warm (hot) weather, I took my boots off, stowed them in the bow and fished in my stocking feet (amazing how many times I could feel myself standing on the fly line.

I've spliced a line or two before but didn't try shrink wrap. The "newer" Rio line Rio was good enough to replace at their cost.

Get rubber backed area rugs like they use in restaurant entry ways and then drape them over the fence and hose 'em down.
