Brasshead black leech at Pass

For me, the brass head, black leech, tied with black semi seal, is my "confidence" fly at Pass. Sometimes I use a jig hook, sometimes not. I tend to go with a smaller leech, but I always wrap some lead around the hook. BTW I was bored last night, and was playing around with "gemini" (my very new hobby) and thought that I would include my very crude AI image in my post. I actually would like to hear from people regarding their knowledge of the iconic "black leech". I am certain that members here could give me insights on this simple, yet extremely effective fly. Any input is much appreciated, Jim

Unconventional me says you had me at "confidence." Anything on a hook and user confidence goes a long way, and certainly in Pass depths.

(Btw iPhoners zoom in, it's there) Edit: Jim you were quicker on the draw. But yeah it's there and looks good.

Aside from my first attempts at AI.... I do want input...especially from a guy that writes books on this stuff... For me it's basically..Lead wrapped around various hook types, brass bead head, black semi seal.
But I wonder if this simple fly could be enhanced or improved upon. Red glass beads? Bunny fur or feathers incorporated with the dubbing? Anything?

Simiseal is great, but I really like marabou as well. Marabou is great because it can be dressed down and have no flash all the way up to marabou plus Christmas tinsel.
I think fish that get hammered might respond to the less flashy marabou when a flashy fly might tip them off.
Everybody keep throwing flashy simiseal please. 😁

Marabou probably has the most movement as well. Just don't tell the kids! 👍

Very interesting skyriver. I've tied some "leeches" with semiseal dubbing and Marabou tails. The feather tail does seem to "twitch" more than just a tail made of the dubbing material. And I could "tone down" the flashiness of the semi seal by mixing in some feathers. Thanks for the input.

Ok... here is a question. Hook up.. or hook down? (my above image is a hook down) I can tie a black leech either way. For me personally, I prefer the hook up (jig style) when I'm casting to shore.. and hook down when trolling. I think that this is vital when discussing black leeches. I also would like to discuss the "lip rip". Hook up or hook down.... Where, on the fishes mouth does the hook typically penetrate?

Thanks to you Tom Butler. Bunny fur with other things..I like that. Obviously "hook up". May I ask where these flies end up in the mouth of a hooked fish?
