So very sad to announce that Bob passed this morning, Nov 1, around 3am. I will write a better post later, but I wanted to thank all who took the time to go visit him yesterday, and to all who were planning to but didn't make it. With prayers and thoughts from around the world, he was able to transition peacefully and quickly to his next journey.
Rest easy, Marine. Your watch has ended.

Sad. His book “Pop Fleyes” was the most influential book in my saltwater tying and variations of his Bob’s Banger popper were my go to surface fly for coho and black rockfish. Different coast but super influential. Wish I could have thanked him in person.
 
Virtually all of my musky and saltwater fly tying originates from his designs.

I'm not familiar with his work, but I've heard of his name. Really sorry that he passed in this manner, and well before his time. I grew up in NJ as a kid, and used to surf cast for blues and stripers with my dad in Sandy Hook NJ in the '60's...

...and on many fish lips too.!. Last year a Bob's Banger popper got me my first sillvers on a popper. RIP

his work with bucktail is just the stuff of legends....HUGE reason I went that direction with much of my tying....


Even though I've never met, nor have I ever chatted with him, I'm just so bummed to hear about this....
 
Bob was magic at the vise. Even better as a person. One of the rare humans who was happier and more enthusiastic when “you got it” than you were. The sport and industry is a sadder place today. People like Bob are becoming more rare in our hobby. Enjoy it while you can.

served four drinks in an hour...the serving bartender(s), likely friends with their fellow employee, may well find themselves charged as accessories.
 
I believe he was also instrumental in a certain line of St. Croix fly rod series, salt water fly rods.
