Bluegill with fat bellies?

Caught a few bluegills on poppers the other evening. And many of them had pretty fat bellies. Would these be because there's a lot of spring food and they are gorging themselves? Or were they females full of eggs (there are beds around).

On some local lakes the bluegill take over the empty bass nests. And man are they aggressive!! Kind of a good thing they don’t get to be five pounds+ they’d tear us a new one!

Definitely preggos. The yellow belly instead of copper is female coloration. Theyll be popping in the next week or so (caught some there last night.)

Yep, the bulls/males are darker than those. Love is in the air...er water.
