Best sports un-retirement of the weekend.

BTW , some professional football players played for years without an acl.

As a side note, my wife has gone for years without an acl.

I think that compression region before the gate got a lot of the gals off their rhythm and out of position.

She was 100% reckless in her decision to race with a torn ACL.

Her management team was reckless the committee was reckless. Chasing headlines. It's not like there wasn't another racer ready to go.....and she won.

I love women sports.
Always amazes me how some become authorities on something they know absolutely nothing about and are incapable of comprehending.

I have a friend with no acl in his left knee, he’s a damn fine skier, and does it with no brace. If you know how to do it, the acl is not all that important. The two of us, in our late sixties might occasionally hit the high fifties, just for fun, but we’re incredibly reckless. I tried to catch Steve Mahre once, he didn’t know I was behind him, no matter I’m not going THAT fast, and he’s six months older than me. I was hoping for a better outcome for Lindsey. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’ll be back.

Another for @Peyton00 to "haha" at.

That is what I thought I saw. That bump got a bunch of them. She just ended up inside where several others got pushed out off the race line. Several of them got their weight too far back in that compression. You can't get your tips back down at that speed no matter how strong you are.

Getting bucked into the backseat likely didn't help but it seems like it was less about her getting the tips back down and more about getting her arm hooked in that gate while in midair starting an unrecoverable rotation. Whatever it was, at the speeds and forces generated in DH racing things go bad quickly!

In my first season of racing one of my teammates hooked a tip in a gate and spiral fractured her tib-fib. My mental game never recovered from watching that and in the next ~five years of racing I was petrified of taking an aggressive line - which is mandatory if you want to have a chance at a good finish - and therefore I was always late and sloooow. After I retired from racing and was doing freeskiing contests I went to Jackson Hole and inspected a line with a buddy. During my run I missed a landmark and had to adjust my line on the fly, missing a feature we both wanted to hit. My buddy dropped a few skiers after me and I watched him hit the mark and the feature but he ended up hitting a rock or something and fracturing a vertebrae on the landing (he eventually recovered fully). That was the last straw for my mental game in competitive skiing.
