Best Net Configuration for Trout Fishing

My wonderful wife bought me a 'trout' net for my birthday. 24" length opening, 24" deep, and rubberized, knotless net with a 20" to 36" adjustable length handle. When fishing by myself, I find the longer handle quite convenient and not as much stress on my rod. Haven't snapped a tip yet (crossing fingers).

It was not what I was looking for so I cobbled together a couple of nets to make what I wanted. Since I fish from a boat a lot, the adjustable length handle was great but I prefer a shallower depth net (12" - 14") with large holed silicon netting (makes it easier to release the fly and the fish). For most trout I catch, up to 20", it works fine. If the trout is larger than that, it will just fill the net up, hanging out of both sides making for a better pic... LOL. I also prefer quick-release folding, aluminum handles over wood frames because they last longer. (Note: I do not take care of nets like I should).

What I ended up with, shown with handle in shorter configuration:

What do you prefer in a net configuration?

I wade and boat with a Fishpond mid-length boat net, unless only fishing where there’s tiny stuff. Then I just use a Ketchum release or hand release them. I like black nets because they disappear in photos.

Unless I’m in the canoe with my kid, in which case I have a custom-length net so I can reach his fish.

For scale, I’m 6’7”

Everybody will have their preferences in shape and length but the one thing thats a must have for me is a deep net. The shallow ones allow the fish to flop out more than i care for...

Same here. Not a fan of the fish trampoline effect with shallow net bags.

Nice nets!

Along with a deep bag I've learned that I really like a clear or white net...it's far easier to see flies (which are generally dark) that frequently pop out of a netted trout...so I don't waste time getting the critter back in the water. Even makes it easier to determine a fly has been taken deeply and I can immediately snip the tippet.
