Back to back Vancouver concerts. Last night Viagra Boys and Queens of the Stone Age.

Really bummed I missed Viagra Boys when they came through on their own tour last spring. They really deserve their own show and a smaller, more rampage-y experience.

We mostly just watched with jaws hanging open in horror at the Viagra Boys. The end is Nero was better The end is Now-O... I kept flashing back to Maud in the big lebowski describing the group Autobahn, as "its an earthy techno pop"

Viagra Boys have been my favorite musical discovery of 2023!

Last night, Queens Of The Stone Age.

QOTSA Oct 2002 Showbox, win to get in only. A coworker asked me to help him call in, had to be caller 107 on The End. He never got through, however I missed twice at 62 and some other number before hitting at 107. He fell out of his chair and we went to the show. You can imagine the mosh pit on that bouncy floor in the Showbox. We had the time of our lives.

Last night's Avenged Sevenfold show was excellent 👌

I was... 17. That QOTSA cd got heavy play in my cd deck to and from high school.

Very small crowd at the avenged show last nite.

Equates to great seats for everybody that did show up.
I think it was appropriately crowded....

Great sound from down on the floor...I was pleasantly surprised by that given Moda's acoustics...or lack thereof.

Dead, Dead and Dead......
but the Stones Voodoo Lounge tour concert in Foxboro, MA showed me why they're called the greatest band on earth....I thought they were old then....and now.....still Rockin'!
Bob Weir/Rob Wasserman....standup bass.....oh my!
1980....Eagles, Foreigner, Cheap Trick day of Rock n Roll at the New Orleans Superdome.....worked the first half of the concert at a concession stand to raise money for Boy Scouts, then made my way to floor.....saw things as a 14 year old kid that I had no idea existed!

I did not know Avenged Sevenfold still makes music. I like their stuff from the early 2000s, does the current music still sound like that?

Some does.

Honestly though, I like most of their stuff, even the non-thrash, "mainstream" stuff.

O.K., the void is crying out for this. What is/are the best musical performance(s) you ever witnessed?
1974 Pink Floyd quad sound DSOTM Portland Memorial Colloseum
Small venue, 1999 Link Wray Crystal Ballroom Portland,OR- about 2001 June Tabor, the Old Church (a capella)
1976 Gentle Giant (Octopus) mem colloseum- opened for Edgar Winter, I came to see GG, left after Edgar winter performed Frankenstein… so if I consider Gentle giant only this was one of my favorites…out of about 70 l went to…none of the outdoor venues qualify as most enjoyable

One of my favorites was the 1989 Vancouver Folk Music Festival. It was an annual event for Linda and me, but this was the best one. Three days of incredible and diverse music. Billy Bragg and Pete Seeger playing together, what a treat. Also, Sprit of the West, an all-time favorite, and so many others. It poured rain on the Sunday morning, but Linda and I, and a few intrepid other souls went anyway. What is normally a bustling atmosphere with people jockeying for position became a truly intimate affair. It cleared for the Sunday evening finale, it was quite magical.

cheers

Last night was definitely the best concert I played... last night. New amalgamation of old and new musical buddies put together a 23 minute set of punk rock mayhem before Boxcutter PNW and Land of Wolves went nuts. Looks like I need a more powerful PA system.

Edit: On Oct 7, 2003 Turbonegro played at Graceland. Legitimately one of the best shows I've ever been to!
