NFR Best concerts

They're fantastic live. You're in for a treat.
Yeah, always wanted to see them.

Shoot, I bought tickets to three concerts last night. Metal Church in a small venue tomorrow night, Avenged Sevenfold Tuesday and Tool on the 19th! My ears may bleed.

Not the greatest but an interesting one. Stones Steel Wheels tour at Oakland Coliseum. A friend of a friend was a roadie and got us some nice seats in the middle about 30 rows back. Seal was the opening act. Everybody was just kind of mulling around waiting for him to stop shrieking so we could see the Stones. Everybody except for the lesbian couple in front of us. They kept yelling at people to be quiet. Literally everybody was just kind of hanging out but these 2 were fully enthralled by Seal. Eventually he was done and just like that they left. Didn’t even stick around for the Rolling Stones. Crazy…

My wife and I try to hit concerts a lot including the Jazzfest in NOLA. Muse has been one of my favorite shows, with UB40 and recently Common Kings. Back in the 80’s Devo,B52’s,ZZ Top and Dire Straits come to mind. And an icon that hits me the most is seeing Taj Mahal in the mid 80’s, recently in NOLA and watching him again in November at jazz alley.

Some I won't soon forget.
Swervedriver in the basement @ Melody Ballroom. With it's low ceiling, the music was an actual physical force. Also saw the League of Crafty Guitarists there, talk about polar opposites!

Yes Relayer Tour

Joe Bonamassa, on his birthday, tearing it up on an electric, all night long. Was five rows back for that one.

Might have mentioned this one before, Gary Moore @ the Pine Street Theater. Outstanding.

Black Crowes- Plattsburgh 95-ish- Chris was at his angry anxious best in my home town.

Phish - Clifford Ball

Goose 2/24/22- Radio City Music Hall NYC

Goose 4/23/23- Paramount Theater, Seattle WA- Absolutely the best show I have ever experienced. Factory Fiction...........

The best I have seen, in chronological order:
1) Stephen Stills & Manassas (Oh my goodness!) - Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA 1972
2) Santana followed by Eric Clapton (Santana was the lead act....Lord have mercy, what a fantastic 2 acts!) - Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA 1974
3) Jethro Tull (what a show!) - The Los Angeles Forum, Inglewood, CA 1975
4) Atlanta Rhythm Section (a seriously polished live performance!) - University of Montana Field House, Missoula, MT 1980

Gregg Sage. Dave Koupal. Sam Henry. The Wipers. The best 10 or more shows I ever saw were watching them play at the Long Goodbye in Portland. Looking back 64 1/2 years, the happiest times in my life were when I was watching them play, they were that good. The Wipers were the most criminally under-rated band of all time.

But national/international acts? I saw The Who twice with Keith, both times in '76, I think, The second of those shows was his last performance in the USA. Those were great shows with my favorite group.
I was lucky to have seen some of the great bands of the punk era in their prime, and most were exhilarating. I saw The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Cramps (my first punk show), 999, Talking Heads, The Ramones, The Dead Boys, The Dils, Bad Brains, Johnny Thunders all in '78. '79 and '80 saw Stiff Little Fingers, The Avengers, Black Flag, The Dead Kennedy's, The B-52's, U2, and The Police (the latter two at a club about the size of a half of a basketball court in successive weekends).

Favorite live Band? Without a doubt, The Ramones.

Best opening band?
I saw ZZ Top open for Rare Earth
I saw Bad Company open for, somebody
I saw Gang of Four open for The Buzzcocks
Honorable mention, because Ii dislike both bands' music and only went because my GF bought me a ticket, Def Leppard opening for Billy Squire.

Years ago I saw Def Leppard open for Billy Squire (mentioned in my post above). About half the crowd left after Def Leppard finished. Def Leppard were on their way up with a rocket, and Billy Squire was ever so slightly over the hill.

Def Leppard opening for Blackfoot was a memorable concert. High n Dry had just been released. 🤘🏼😁🤘🏼

A relatively young, skinny, and still somewhat unknown Bruce Springsteen at Théâtre Maisonneuve, Place des Arts (seats about 1400) in 1975, an amazing 4 hours.

cheers

I moved to Montana when I was 24, so concerts were limited. Did see DefLepard, Stevie Ray, Van Halen, and Dylan here.
Beforehand, saw Rush, The Who, ZZ Top, Doobies, The Nuge.
Wish I could have seen Hendrix, Skynrd, Zep, U2, ACDC, Aerosmith.

in the early 70's they would have concerts at Hec Ed at the UW. As a student I can remember going to concerts with Santana and Jethreo Tull. Sadly those memories are a little hazy as well as sitting in the Brown Bag section and the Stoner Section(back when they had a concrete section in the student section) at Husky foot ball games.

Rush, at the Gorge, May 1997.

Simply awesome.
