I'm terribly sorry to hear this…my sister was a teacher in Highlands Ranch outside of Denver when there was a shooting at her school…the shooter was a classmate of my niece.

tragic. Our Granddaughter is a freshman in another Bend school, when she came by after school with my son she was really shook up.
Bend closed all schools today, scrambling to provide counselors for the students.
The armed 'bystander' who followed the shooter into the school and killed him undoubtedly saved lives.

Prayers for all affected by this heinous & senseless act.

We have two hero's in this tragedy. The father of two school children who heard the shots when driving by, and with his legally carried weapon hurried into school. Upon entering the classroom he found the shooter engaged by a teacher who had thrown her phone at him upon entering her special needs classroom and then charged him and was trying to wrestle the shotgun away when the father shot him. The father is refusing to talk to the press, his family says he is shaken to the core by what he had to do. The bravery of the teacher who remains unidentified at this time by her own request is absolutely apex.
The 16 year old shooter had been a special needs student in the very same classroom he entered as a killer.
We've been talking with our granddaughter as well as our other grandchildren who have called us. There is no explanation to address such a tragedy other than mental illness and access to unsecured firearms.

As we each grow up, each and every experience helps determine who we are and who we will become.

Tragic events, like this, permanently shape what is to come. The support of family, friends, community and professionals, are so important. Not just now but also in the future. From what I have read, that is occurring as I write this. Organizations from around Oregon and the US are coming to help. People that have been through similar tragic events are coming too.

One of the great things about America - we come to help others.

My best wishes to all involved...

Sadly it has become a regular occurrence in the US of A.
No resolution in sight.
