Beach fishing for coho in Seattle MA10

Just Hatched
Hi, I'm a college student and have some free time in a week or two and saw the opening for coho in MA 10 started on June 1st. I also have zero beach fishing experience or salmon fishing in general, I have an 8wt and OBS spooled up from some pike and bass stuff, but was wondering if early June yields any salmon off the beaches in Seattle area. Not asking for anybody's secret spots just checking for general info, any tips on tides, locations, flies, or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, you can catch coho off the MA 10 beaches in June. They won’t be big but will get bigger as the month progresses. They are also tasty if you like eating salmon.
I’d start with some size 4 or 6 clousers minnows. Color wise, pink or chartreuse over white or chartreuse over pink would be good options.
You’ll be a bit overgunned with an 8 wt in my opinion, but use what you have. A 6 wt if you have one would be a better option. Is your OBS a floater, intermediate?
As far as tides go, an early morning high into the outgoing would be my choice. As far as locations go, any public access preferably with a point would be a good option. You want to fish moving water, which a point will help create as the tide moves.
Consider making yourself a stripping basket to help with line management.
Have fun.

Thank you so much, yeah I have an 8wt with titan long and intermediate OBS or I also have a 5wt vice that I planned on buying OBS floating for sea runs anyways. I could bring either or both if the 8 is too overkill. Especially, if I'm throwing 4-6 size flies maybe the 5wt would be better?

Unless it is really windy, your 5 wt should be fine. Think of early June coho being like catching really good size cutthroat.
Take your 8 just in case.

If you’re struggling to catch fish in MA10 and feeling like there’s no point trying anymore, watch for the MA9 opener in late July. There are better salmon beaches up there if you’re willing to beat around the bush for some options.

Also give it another month and a half and the pinks will start rolling in.

Try MA13 on the west side under the big bridges. This is a very good training ground to learn salmon fishing in June. Fish early morning until 10:30, outgoing tides, cloudy days. Get an intermediate shooting head saltwater fly line. The discount bin at your local fly shop has plenty of good ones. 6 or 7 weight fly rod and a stripping basket with tangle cones are ideal. Sandlance fly patterns work very well for resident coho, cutts, etc.
