BC trip (7 days and lots of pics!)

The trip started like many others with a pile of gear in the garage and a final check over:IMG_20220812_051458_01.jpgRod arrived(@troutpocket) and we loaded up and hit the road to join @Irafly and @Yardus Maximus for Ira's 50th Birthday.

The first lake we hit was Posby Lake. It's a fun pay to play lake with a really nice host(Shane) and location.

We had one heck of lightning show and had to seek shelter the first evening! Thankfully the jeep did well.

The loons were always waiting. What a lovely haunting sound they make however!

Fished a dry for first time in forever:20220817_132124.jpgThis was fun. Ken and I had to reel up our sinking lines fast due to wind and getting shallow. I hooked up and then a moment later he did. I got up early two mornings in a row so for the last evening I was looking forward to a spot by the fire. I took this shot of an older gentleman off the deck. 20220818_184738.jpg 20220818_203151.jpgAs it got later in the evening the seats filled up and we enjoyed one hell of a send off. Truely a fun evening of socializing and relaxing and getting to know each other better as well as meeting some new friends. I can't wait to be back.

Ira had to kick his Prius into four on way out😁20220819_100634.jpgI have never done a trip like this and it was really special for me. I want to thank Ira, Rod and Ken for the wonderful company!

I highly recommend Meadow Lakes. The food was good. The lodge was comfortable and the accommodations were really top notch. The staff felt more like friends.

Great photos and write up. I look forward to hearing more. One question I have, which I don't think is giving anything away...I have fished a few public lakes in that area (there are SO many) but never a private lake. Was there much of a difference between the private lake and the public lakes, in relation to size, quantity, pressure? Cool to see the surface temps still below 70 even during the middle of the summer. I suppose elevation had a lot to do with that.
 
Nice write up, Billy. BC lakes grow on you, eh!! I've been trying to convince the two guys I travel to BC with to try Meadow Lakes (I need to try harder!). Welcome home.
 
The first time I fished Posby Lake was mid-July after leaving Meadow Lakes where we saw a couple of sedge but fish weren’t looking up yet. Dropping down to Posby @ 2500’ the sedge were out and the fish were looking up. My grandson had never caught a trout over 12” on a dry, the next three days it was lights out surface action. Shane said the lake fishes extremely well in September and October.
Love Meadow Lakes and BC.
 
What a trip! Thanks to Ira for picking our base of operations from the overwhelming options. Lodge life is good for the soul.

After being home for a couple days I’m really missing the “vibe” up there. I’ve done my share of fishing in many western states but BC is a different experience.

On two evenings Ira and I had a friendly competition. We knew there were some small trout showing and Ira packed a 5’6” 3 weight to chase them. We traded off control of the boat while the other cast to the smallest risers we could find. Ira was solid the first night.

On the last evening things were setting up nicely. I took the rod first and got into the zone. We had both hooked a few real contenders but this fish was special.

With the bar set, I took over the boat and Ira went to work. He got some good shots but nothing stuck. Then a little front moved in, it started raining, the breeze puffed and the surface game was over.

With so many lakes and an opportunity to take home smoked trout, I didn’t feel bad taking a few to eat. I haven’t killed a trout in years. They are tasty with the right preparation! Here’s Ira with a couple for the smoker.

I always see the MLFC signs on my way to Flapjack but never thought twice about it until I saw it mentioned on this forum. Did you guys fish Flapjack?

It seemed some of the public lakes had more potential for true giants to me. But Posby was lower elevation and perhaps the bigger ones were laying a little low. It was a fun lake and the fish we caught fought well. Temps during the trip from my 120 were between 65 and 71.
 
Day one heading to Posby. Shane was a such a great host. A spectacular thunderstorm hit the lake on our first full day and we of course waited till the last possible moment to take cover. Shane had us weather out the storm in one of his trailers at the lake. He informed us that a lightning strike hit the lake while we were taking cover.
