BC report for a lake near 100 Mile House 9/11 - 9/12/24

Last week I drove up to a new lake for me near 100 Mile House (which doesn't reveal anything, as there are hundreds of lakes in that area, for anyone concerned about hotspotting).

The fishing was surprisingly tough, as I only landed 4 fish in two days of fishing, but they were nice fish (here are two that were retained):

The stomachs were filled with daphnia, which might explain the tough fishing.

The camping areas were packed, mostly with moose hunters. Reminder to myself to check on moose hunting seasons before heading up there next time. The campers next to me got a moose, so it was interesting watching how they skinned and butchered it:

I'm not a hunter, so I don't know how much this moose weighed, but the guy who got it said that it was probably around 1,000 pounds. That's a lot of meat!

Nice report and cool photos Rex. Looks like you were using a little black leech? How about your water boatman pattern?

Yeah, it was a small SBH Dark Olive Rabbit Fur Leech, so nothing special. I did try water boatmen patterns, but they didn't work, maybe because there didn't seem to be any water boatmen at this lake, or maybe because the fish were keyed in on daphnia. Up in BC they say that when the fish are on daphnia or glassworms, just move to a different lake. ;)

I was hoping to find some 8 pounders at this lake, but I'll have to give it another try in the future. You're right, there are a ton of lakes up there to try, so you definitely won't run out of lakes to fish.
