BC Going to Permanent DST

Good for them.

Changing the clocks and starting everyone work/school/business, etc. day an hour earlier (later) twice a year is beyond ludicrous.

If it's really desirable to start earlier (later) for part of the year, just do it and leave the clocks alone. It's really all we're doing anyway but for some reason we start earlier (later) and change the clocks when we do it. We end up having one day of the year that's 23 hours long and another day that's 25 hours long. Madness!

It is ONLY a lie, if your not smart enough to know that the statement is not correct.

I prefer the alternative explanation.

This won't cause any confusion at all. What could go wrong?

Jokes aside, I'm jealous. I feel like even if we DID stop switching the clocks, WA will somehow end up getting bullied into permanent Standard Time by the other states somehow. Which would suck.

It seems to me that whenever I'm lucky enough to be up in BC on a ''fishing trip" that there's only about 15-16 hours in each day.......

So you like it if it doesn't get light until after 8 in the morning? Kids going to school in the dark?

We change the clocks this Saturday, it is just now starting to get light at a reasonable hour in the morning (6:00) - for me, light at 5:00 AM in the summer and getting dark at 8:00 PM is just fine.

Guess it all depends on your individual circadian rhythm.

You retired guys don't have clocks...do ya?

At my school it got light at 9:30am and dark around 4:30pm at the Winter solstice. It's no big deal.

Great news about BC. Now the rest of the PNW needs to follow.

Agreed on the suckage.

Good news. WA, CA, and OR have said they want to make DST full time if the other two states do. Getting congress to approve it is the issue.

There are lots of places in the world where it's dark in the winter mornings regardless of DST or not. Kids somehow make it to school in Alaska, right? Norway? N. Ireland? I guess we'll see how it goes for our schoolkid neighbors to the north.

But as you say, all gonna depend on your individual circadian rhythms or life schedule, I suppose.

Well I think it sucks, being an early riser, I don't need 4 to 5 hours dark after I get up, and in the summer, the difference between sun setting after 8 PM or after 9 PM is meaningless, likewise, in the winter, difference between sunset after 4 vs after 5 PM is meaningless, but that's just me.

You do sound retired. That extra hour of daylight after work is quality fishing time.

Not retired, my work day starts around 5:00 AM or earlier and ends at 2:00; I am done by 8:00 PM, so I don't need no stinkeen extra hour ...

The current SOP is to ignore Congress and do whatever the hell you want. I say do it and tell them to shove it.

My understanding is that Washington voted to go to DST full time several years ago, but it needs approval from Congress. Congress doesn't want to act on it for some reason.
