BC - 2023

Safe travels, I suspect as you climb out of the lowlands of Kamloops up the Coquihalla you might see some white stuff. Good luck, looking forward to a trip report when you get back.

Heads up, there's been a lot of winter kill in the Kamloops area lakes.

That was going to be my first sentence in my follow-up report. The first lake I went to was totally killed because the aerator failed. So now I am on plan b at a new lake that I have never fished before. Reports from other campers is it has been slow, but they are catching a few. I am going to stick it out here for the next 2 days and work it as hard as I can.

I was just made aware of GoFishBC's blog on winter kill, how sad. The region I fish lists a couple of favorites as "winter killed". Damn frustrating.

yup, there's still options, just gotta be a bit more creative about where...good luck.

There's one small lake that we can't get our truck into with the utility trailer, the road is just too rough, the "potholes" too deep. I'm going to haul my float tube up this year as an option for hiking in rather than just have the wood boat.

I was at Lundbom for two days. Rain with a steady breeze was the prevailing pattern. I noticed no winterkill but the fishing was slow. I managed to trick a couple with @iveofione halfback pattern. What I think might have worked better was boatman patterns. One tied for a sinking line and one tied for the floating line. I'll be better prepared next time.

Good call on the boatman W. I use a flashback halfback almost interchangeably with a boatman at times casting right to the bank in early spring. I got 2 twenty inch fish last year in a foot of water with flashback halfbacks, I'm fairly certain they were taken for boatmen.

This time of year it seems that boatmen are in the flotsam right at the edges of the lakes, good call Ive.

I'd like to see a picture of your flashback halfback, if you are willing to share one.
