Bass update from the eastside (the spawn)

This has been a really weird spring. I started out catching topwater bass over a month ago in 50 degree water temps. Since that time it has really been hit and miss. The weather has been very unstable with lots of giant wind storms.

Some days are very good and some days very bad and very little in between. I've struggled more this spring then usual but also caught a lot of really good fish (4-5 pounds). The giant over 6 alludes me.

The bass are currently doing their spawn gig in most bodies of water. I recommend covering water. Sometimes you can go hundreds of yards without anything and then get into a shallow bay with just the right conditions and catch several nice ones. Generally I've been throwing topwater with some jig flies mixed in. So check that out when it drops🍻

How's everyone else doing?

Same on the west side. Temps gave been up and down. Its been hard to find where the fish are in the water column, but I have found more and more up shallow in their late spring/early summer spots along the edges. So hopes are high that the bite picks up and I can start putting some more nice specimens in the net.

Now I just need a clone to do all the other "adult" things while I get to fish everyday.

Got my grandson out with spinning gear last Sunday. We found a good Smallmouth bite in 6-10' of water on a big flat.
The water temp was 60 degrees. We managed a dozen or so in a few hours but would have done better if it wasn't for the numerous downpours and wind. I'd like to go again this week but I will be replacing my deck boards instead.
This is my grandson with one from the previous weekend.

I'm also on the West side. I have only had one blow up on a frog so far but have tried top water each time now that the temps are consistently above 60.

My youngest and I got into a good school yesterday after trout fishing. We picked up over a dozen in a bit over an hr. A bonus crappie to make a warm water trifecta. My nine yr old is getting pretty good with a jerk bait. She caught five on it.
