Baseball 2024

Do the Ms owners want their team to win- why of course. But will they spend the money to increase the likelihood of winning or winning the world series? NO.

And why- because just as I said, the owners know their fans will enable them. Enable them to still make money because enough fans seem content with the bobble heads and fireworks etc. Until the fans stop spending the team will continue to be mediocre at best. There is a good article in the Athletic about the Phillies’ owners passion for trying to win the World Series. It is a lot more fun to watch a team like the Phillies who at least you know are doing within reason all they can to win.

The Mariners 2024 payroll is the 16th or 18th highest depending on the source- right in the middle. The Twins, Royals, Orioles, Guardians all have lower payrolls and better records. The Blue Jays, Rangers, Angels, White Sox and Rockies all have higher payrolls and worse records. The management is cheap line is pretty thin.

There are two major issues with umps calling balls and strikes.

1. The pitches are hard to track. So much movement and velocity just make it overly difficult.
2. Every ump has their own "strikezone" and some of them are flat ridiculous. A hitter just never knows one at bat to the next just what is or isn't a strike.

Easy solution too.

The Mariners management is CHEAP
line is spot on. Per the article below (google it) the Mariners had the highest profit in the league at 82.6 million dollars in 2023. The team is valued at 2.2 billion dollars. The Mariners’ owners are cheap. But hey it’s ok to still like them and root for them. I still root for them but I wish the owners were not so cheap so they would go out and get the players they need to try to win a World Series and to make the team more enjoyable to watch. If they could hit they would be more enjoyable to watch.

These are all of the games played yesterday, check the "acc" column

Out of all pitches not receiving a swing, MLB average is 94% called correctly.

Yesterday's Mariners game, in which I thought the ump was overly generous on the outside corner, but went both ways

I'm admittedly not a baseball player or geek at all but I saw an interesting video about how some (good?) catchers get closer to the plate so low pitches can't drop as far, may even partially obscure the umpire's vision of the ball with their glove, then use movement of their glove to "steal" strikes.

Catchers "framing" the pitch has been a talent for years.
Yeah and it just goes away, like it should, with robo umps. And if you want to watch crazy calls watch how umps react when the guy on first breaks for second. The catcher starts to stand as the pitch comes in and the umps has no clue if its a ball or strike.

AI and computers should do everything, humans make mistakes, and mistakes can't be tolerated in games shown on TV for entertainment...it's simply too important.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

... Me too, tough couple of games, and lost their leading RBI guy for the rest of the season with a broken thumb. They are in the middle if a tough stretch, 12 games in a row against division leaders. Need a win badly tonight.

Go Royals!!!

Stick a trident in them, they’re done.

Was Ohtani's game the other night the best hitting performance (for a single game) of all time? 6-6, 3 homers, 2 SBs, 10 RBI's to reach a milestone of 50 homers and stolen bases in a single season that has never been done before in the history of western civilization? (that last part is a tribute to Bill Walton).
