Each fall I hike to the North Cascades Creek which my 7' Tom Fulk 5 weight bamboo rod is named for. This is a wild stream with ice cold water and nothing but elk tracks on the bank.

The morning started slow but we found wild cutts on size 12-14 Adams and Humpies as the water warmed up.

Tom's widow gave me his fishing diaries. Tom last fished this stream on October 31, 2002. He packed in a stove and fried a couple cutthroat for lunch. We did the same today. Here's to you Tom!

This day made me think of John Gierach's words: "Out there, there are still wild places where the stuff in books still works."
