Took my annual trip to the seep lakes this week. The first day I did well with a pair of quill bodied chironomid patterns fished on a 15' leader (no bobber) off a drop-off. The 9' 4 and 6/8's ounce Winston bamboo rod had no trouble pushing out long casts into a light breeze.

Met a fish and wildlife employee who was doing a survey of whip snakes. Scientist chic: gaiters, silk kerchief, hoodie, field notebook, sunglasses, fingerless gloves, binoculars and a garmin satellite locator.

The next day we fished a less crowded lake a short distance away. Hard to wheel your boat or pontoon craft through the soft sand to this one. Caught lots of 10-12 inch fish on a Sharpes 88, a full sinking line and a dark olive Carey or self-bodied Carey.

We also caught a few perch which doesn't bode well for the future of these two lakes.

Rods at rest at the end of two days...
