For any who missed the earlier thread in the Bamboo rod forum, we are getting together -

Sunday June 9 at 11am at Cascade View Neighborhood park in Redmond WA

For our annual bamboo and glass rods meet up. It's a great, casual gathering where folks can bring new or classic bamboo and glass rods to show, share, cast. If you've been to one before, it's just a simple park with lots of open space grass lawn. There are some who show the rods they have made themselves. There are some rods that might be over 100 years old and which are rare, great to see in person, and great to cast yourself to feel what that old master rod maker created in the early days of fly rod development. And lots of rods in-between from the 1930s - 2020's. It's like a classic car show but you can test drive each one.

If you've never been but have any curiosity or interest please feel free to come by, hang out and see if you like those rods or not. Tight lines to all!

I was recently gifted a 6'2" Carpenter bamboo rod that had never been used.
The model is a Midge in a 4wt.
I tried a 4 wt WFF line and I didn't like the way it cast, so I tried a 3wt WFF and it cast much better.
I am using a Lamson 0ne reel with the 3wt line on it.
I took the rod out a few days ago on my favorite little blue line and I was loving it.
A 7" coastal cutt a pretty nice bend in the rod.
So here is where the fun started.
I made a short cast in the tail out od a pool that had a nice root wad thinking it might hold a nice cutt.
Perfect drift by the stump, no riser. I went ahead and let the fly drift into the head of the next riffle not expecting a fish to be in it.
Well I got a hit and in auto mode did a set, but I didn't have my finger on my line, so the little reel just spun and the old 3 wt line with some bad memory made a wild back lash. OMG it took 20 mins to get the tangle out.
I turned around the next day a bought a 3 wt DT and my next fishing trip was way nicer.
Love me some light weight bamboo
