Bamboo fling 2025

I am very excited to let you all know that a good friend and talented rod maker is planning to attend this year's Fling. Tom Bowden likes to experiment, and he took on the task of making what he calls a TriHex Bamboo fly rod. I will not try to explain the process or result; you'll have to see it yourselves. I'm sure you will be amazed at the six-strip design, challenge to make such a rod and the end result of casting it. I haven't even had the chance to cast it yet, so excited! Tom also is making his ferrules out of carbon fiber. See you all Saturday.

Will be fun to see tom. Maybe he can give me a new source for tape for my spliced sharpes rods. Have made a big dent in the tape i bought from the previous source he recommended.

Hi people,
I’ve been going through my bamboos. My wife keeps asking me “How many DO you have?” 😳😂
A wife type of question. So I made a spreadsheet of the rods I have with all the specifications and prices if I was to sell them. Some rids have prices that you would look at and think “That guys crazy!!” More than likely, that’s a rod I really would rather keep but would sell if you wanted it that badly 😊
If you would like the PDF, I’ll attach it here. I live in Shoreline off 160th street by the old Sears building if you see something that perks your interest

A great collection. Can you bring the 9' Grangers and Wright and McGill Grangers (rods #9, #10 and #45) to the cast around? Would be fun to cast them.

Great! A little short since the rain came through but I cast a lot of great stuff! Maybe we shoukd do another in the fall..

I didn't take pictures but a few other did and will post i assume!

Great company and great rods. We toasted Tim Cottage's memory with Monkey shoulder. If you limited my trout fishing to these 3 Winstons (6' Little feller, 8'6" 5 weight, 8' 4 weight, it wouldn't be a hardship.

Kent Lufkin (left) and Mike Monsos (right) are conferring next to Mike's extensive rod selection. Mike's 8' 7 weight has to be cast to be believed. I'm in the middle of the picture trying to figure out how I can abscond with it. I know what rod I'll be fishing on the broad Cowlitz tailouts when I'm old and infirm...Ron Raport (right) is lining a Granger.

The other rod which was an eye opener was Tom Bowden's 12'6" hollow built 6/7 weight spey with a scandi line. It would be a joy for dry line work on the Cowlitz. Too many rods, too little time...

It was a lot of fun, casting and talking bamboo it doesn't get much better than that. Dave arranged a wonderful toast to our good friend Tim Cottage (in hindsight it would have been a great picture..................). Tom Bowden's TriHex was amazing to cast and try to figure out how he accomplished a design like that. It's always a fun day to connect with our little community of lovers of bamboo.
