I took my Sharpes Wilson International 8'3" 6 weight bamboo out to a couple small lakes on the shoulder of the North Cascade mountains yesterday. Caught brookies and cutts in the first lake on a Peter Ross wet fly and a Carey Special and a Black Wooly Bugger.

At the second lake the fish were rising to size 8-10 black flying ants.

We caught fish on Carey Specials and sinking lines but would have done better with a floating flying ant imitation.

Note to self: tuck a floating line and some flying ant patterns into your fishing vest when you are visit lakes in May and September. Here are the flying ant patterns I carry. What patterns do you use?

Always a good idea to have some ants in your pocket. The pattern I use is basically a caddis #16, 18, 20. Black body, black palmer hackle trimmed on the bottom and any material you like for the wing. It has saved me more than a few times.
