Looks like a Vole, I'd guess a Montane Vole. Voles are pretty cyclic, sometimes many & sometimes very few.

Looks like a Vole, I'd guess a Montane Vole. Voles are pretty cyclic, sometimes many & sometimes very few.

What's puzzling is that we have been in this house for 24 years and this is a first.
To the best of my knowledge the neighbors on either side have never had an issue and the State Park borders our backyard with no evidence of mounds.

It does possess some similarities but much smaller and was never seen or displayed any evidence of being above ground over the past year.

Some critters expand their range. There were never Wild Turkeys around Tri Cities until a few years ago, no Whitetail Deer in the Deerlodge Valley, or thousands of Snow Geese around the Tri Cities.
