This, right here, is why I am glad my whole house is 900 sqft, and I’ve only got like 100 sqft of cement patio. Repainting every 10 years takes a day for the body and another for the trim, the front yard and back yard are largely native crops and food plants that can take care of themselves, and usually we give the 1/3 acre of grass over to the wild rabbits…which double as a food crop.@Northern - your perspective is always welcome here. My wife, bless her, has never said 'do this before your go'. More likely, you need to go fishing 'soon'.
As @Brute says, it is not chores. Mine are projects taking weeks or more to finish one. Last year it was building a metal 2-car carport, painting the house and rebuilding a landing. Other years it has been rebuilding/replacing 1500 sq. ft. of decks, finishing off the 1600 sq. ft. of daylight basement, remodeling the master bath, etc. It has allowed us save 10's of thousands of dollars and adding value to our place. Result ---> retired early![]()
My neighbor, on the other hand, has all grass and waters the lawn only to mow it again. Home and yard maintenance is often self-inflicted, folks.
