Anyone ever swapped out a tip section from a different rod?

I've got a 6wt Boost Blue which I love but a couple years ago I snapped the tip and eventually got a replacement section. In between the snap and the correct section, Echo sent me two 6wt Boost Salt tips which I've never used. I've never even tried to assemble the Boost Salt to the Boost Blue, but assuming the ferrules match up... any harm in giving that setup a few test casts?
 
My buddy has done it several times with rods from different manufacturers. It worked and he caught fish with the mutt rod. Last one was I believe a Loomis IMX with an Aventik tip. This was a two pc rod.

As long as they fit snuggly , without any play, your golden..
 
Any one will do!!! Who cares just duck tape something on there!! Ahhh let er rip. Even just hold the line!!! As long as you aggressive in your approach!!!
 
If the pieces fit, chances are the mutant rod will cast and fight just fine .... unless one of the rods is an Ugly Stick 😱
 
I have recently broke the tip section of my tip flex orvis helios 2 fly rod 9ft 8 weight ,no warranty,purchased a tip from a sporting goods store from a echo lift 9 ft 8 weight , had to put about 2 coats of fingernail polish on 2nd sections male end,perfect fit ,feel like the rod works better than before.Also the tip sections from the tip flex echo traverse 9ft 6 weight and the echo ion xl 9ft 7 wt i think they may fit.
 
I appreciate learning about your experiences putting sections of rods together that don't come from the same complete rod. A number of years ago, I bought what was advertised on ebay as a Fenwick World Class two piece rod with two tip sections. I ended up with the butt section of a Fenwick World Class 9 foot 8 weight and two tip sections for a different Fenwick World Class rod. The tip sections are 58 inches long with an inside diameter of .270" and seat too far onto the butt section that came with them. My guess is they are for a 9 1/2 foot rod that is a 9 or 10 weight. I contacted Fenwick to try to get a matching butt section, but these are old World Class rods, not the new versions and they had no match. I have some scrap rod blank sections (again thanks to ebay) that thanks to your posts, and duct tape might enable me to put these Fenwick rod sections back in action.
 
My friend has a fenwick aetos 9ft 8 weight, he often uses the tip section from a sage approach 9ft 8 weight,he feels it makes his aetos
faster and more accurate,perfect fit nothing required.You never know what will fit,check out your fishing stores ,they may have a tip section kicking around to try.

The hybrid.

In all honesty it was a Rainshadow RX7 1143 built as a coho spin rod, busted the tip & Kerry B found a 8 weight tip that was a perfect match. Then l had the rods original builder move the guides onto the new section.

What a hassle, not the recommended route 😜
 
Among my first and favorite rods are decades-old Albright A5 five piece 4 and 5 weights. Over the years I picked up several off ebay, and one of the 5wts was a special edition A5 in a light olive instead of the usual forest green, and different trim. I just so happened to damage a couple of them such that I had alternate, undamaged sections from the green and olive models left.
Fit and fish perfectly! It's my go-to 5wt.
I call him Frank(enstein) :)

Worst case tape them! And yes I have a few times or even cut a blank back on a prototype rod. If it works for you, fish it, if not move on! Cheers!
