Another ho-hum by-catch report...

fished the Deschutes again today....in short, fishing pretty much sucked. I fooled a few really nice ones on streamers, but it certainly wasn't the numbers day I was after.

But, found this one willing to participate...

I ended up having to do the full on "Steve Irwin" bush dive to nab this one. At first, I though it was the same as last week based on size, coloration and location, but after analyzing the head markings, it wasn't. Probably the same cohort and possibly the siblings....

I second your fishing sum up Clarkman. Fished Saturday-Monday. No steel. Trout action on dries in the evening. Lots of October caddis out and about. Where are the steel? Kings still rolling above Mack’s. No snake encounter for me and happy about that!

You just have to look at the counts at the Sherars trap and not a lot of Steel going through, Its another slow year.
 
I fished just above Twin Springs campground Tuesday evening and saw 2 steelhead roll. One was so close I could clearly see it was a 9-10 lb hatchery hen. Thick fish with no adipose. The other one was just above my swinging line and looked smaller. Saw no less than 10 kings roll. Couple BIG ones. Lots of trout popping on something other than October caddis.

I did get this nice redside swinging the Oasis run. That goofy run has given up steelhead (to others, not me) in the past so I hit it real quick. This 14" had me steelhead stoked for a couple seconds.

I agree, I'm hoping for 2-3 gopher snakes & maybe another mottled green rattlesnake next time! :LOL:

I'll let that slide....just don't go hopping onto a snake forum talking about "bullsnakes" out here...it's really for your own safety. :LOL:
