Non-Fly An ode of appreciation to the dirtbag forum

I used to take 6 rods rigged with hoppers for a Yakima August float...one guy up front till all the hoppers were left in the weeds, retie and switch front seaters.
Winter steelhead meant 2 plug rods, a float rod, a drift rod and a spoon rod, perhaps 2 of the last 3 items, depending on who was in the boat that day.
Don't miss that clusterfuck...not as bad as the SS Porcupine Salmo fishes out of, but quite the mess of rods hanging out the back of the drifter.

I've got the cussing down to a science but no longer drink alcohol.
Does that eliminate me from the dirtbag brotherhood?
I've been sober for a while, even with getting my hands stained with coon shrimp dye each winter. Love fishing spoons also. Don't think it's required to be dirty. The grandkids have helped clean up my mouth.
If I had to catch a fish, or just generally meat fishing, I'm throwing a worm, or bait of some kind. Otherwise the fly rod is way more fun, and a lot easier on the fish I think.

Jigging for Salmon and bottomfish is fun..
I'm an 80's kid. All the time I spent at the arcade might be one reason I love video game fishing. It's something about seeing abstract marks around your jig and then feeling the little tick to let you know something is physically "there".

Slack line bites are cool too.

For many years I was a pure and wholesome fly fisher but recently was dragged back into dirtbagery thanks to @jasmillo 🙂
Must admit I do enjoy jigging and trolling flies with divers, it's just a more effective way to fish deeper in the water column, something that fly lines just can't reach. We fly fish the vast majority of the time and prefers it but there's a time a place for everything. It’s good to be well rounded!

Dragged by me! I guess but that was jigging for kings. You brought divers into the equation 🤣. Once 9 opens the divers will go away! It’s my least favorite way to fish and I’ve done it too much already in June. Coho are easily caught on a fly rod in the salt of the time is put in, especially in certain MA’s. Kings, not so much.

Oh wait, I did by a bass gear rod too this year for shits and giggles. Only fished it once or twice. Forgot about that….ha. In my defense I spent over twenty years only fly fishing. Even got rid of all my gear rods at one point because they were gathering dust.

I guess I’m back being a light dirt bag. A dust bag if you will. Ehh, I guess I just like fishing…

I was a fly fishing snob for a long time. Not a very good fly fisher, but a snob. Then, I learned the way of gear,... again.

In my opinion fishing is fishing, conventional or fly, it's all good. I do draw the line on gill nets and dynamite. (Dip nets for sustenance fishing has it's place)
