an important fly fishing boat tool, the action finder

So was on Crane Prairie yesterday, caught one in the morning amidst a sporadic damsely fly hatch and then nothing.
So pulled up anchor and moved to the middle of the lake and got out the action finder and started taking a look around.
Hmmm... a half dozen boats clustered in the NE corner..are those bent rods?
So motored into an open space and noted numerous damselflies emerging....a d-nymph on a ghost tip was rewarded on the first cast with a hook-up. The action stayed solid for about an hour and then even though the hatch continued the bite turned off, likely full bellied trout siesta time.
The action finder, never leave home without it.

I used to play a game where you stand on a sidewalk in a city looking up intently at a random point in a building. A few passersby will stop and look up to see what you are looking at. Once a few people do this, you can step away and the people you caught will catch other people, and the cluster of people looking up will sometimes last a surprisingly long time.

Actually do this when on the river trying to see what bugs the fish are taking off the surface....
